Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, has now addressed the situation, making it clear that Alonso has no plans to leave.

“No, he’s staying, that’s it,” Rolfes said, shutting down the rumors.

He explained that Alonso personally assured him there was no truth to the Madrid links.

“He told me that there was nothing.

He has a contract with us.”

Alonso’s contract with Leverkusen runs until 2026, giving the club control over his future.

As things stand, he is set to remain in Germany.
